Montpellier is a city of almost 300,000 people in the south of France just 10km from the Mediterranean. 

 

 

How to travel to Montpellier

By Air

 

Montpellier sits at the heart of the Mediterranean arc, halfway between Italy and Spain.

The Montpellier Méditerranée Airport is the 1st airport in Languedoc Roussillon. Six regular airlines (Air France, Alitalia, Air Arabia, Ryanair, Easyjet, Volotea) operate to and from it. In 2013, the airport features the following destinations (new destinations are likely to be available in 2015):

  • 2 hubs in France: Paris & Lyon (450 flights to 20 countries)
  • 2 hubs in Europe: Amsterdam, London Gatwick
  • Paris Orly: 10 daily flights
  • Paris Charles de Gaulle: 4 daily flights
  • Amsterdam, London Gatwick: 1 daily flight
  • Brussels, Casablanca: 3 weekly flights
  • Fes, Marrakech, Nador, Roma: 2 weekly flights

The airport is 10 kilometers from Montpellier center (15 minutes drive), midway between the town and the sea. Taxis, car rental and a shuttle service (11 times/day) are available. The cost of a taxi is around 25€, and the cost of the shuttle is €2.60.  More information on Montpellier's airport

High-speed train (TGV): 15 direct high speed trains are operating daily from downtown Paris (3h ½) and 5 daily direct high-speed trains from Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport (4 hours). The train station is located downtown Montpellier near the Corum and most of the hotels. There are also direct trains to Barcelona, Geneva, Nice and Italy, Bordeaux, etc.  More information on SNCF trains

By road

Montpellier is linked to Paris by the A9 and A75 Motorways (around 700 kms). It is also linked to Italy, Spain, Switzerland.

THE CORUM

As well as one of France's top Conference Centres, it also houses the Berlioz Opera House, known for its excellent acoustics and its National Orchestra.

Venue

The Corum is located in the historic center of Montpellier. At the foot of Corum is one of the main stops of public transport in the city served by three of the four lines of the Montpellier tramway and several bus lines. A shuttle bus connects the airport to corum in 15 min (line 120, “Place de l’Europe”). The train station is 10 minutes walk or 5 minutes by tram (line 1 and 2).

Montpellier offers a comprehensive network of buses and trams, available from 5 am to 1 am. Information on Montpellier local transports (TAM).

The tramway “ligne 1”, decorated in blue with white swallows, connects the northern part of the city with the Odysseum terminal on the southeast side. The “ligne 2”, decorated in a flower-power theme, goes from east to west. The colorful “ligne 3”, designed by the famous fashion designer Christian Lacroix, goes from west to east, arriving near the seaside at Perols. From there, you can rent a bike or take a short walk (around 20 minutes) to get to the beach. The golden “ligne 4”, also designed by Christian Lacroix, serves only downtown.

About 30 bus lines are connected to the tramway lines to offer a comprehensive network that will transport you around Montpellier.

The Vélomagg' service offers bicycles with flexible and inexpensive solutions.

For your riding pleasure, 50 automatic bike stations with over 2,000 bicycles are available in Montpellier and the Agglomeration area. Service is open 24/7. All you need is personal identification and you can rent a bicycle to ride the streets of the city and outlying area. You can buy tickets at the Esplanade bike station (next to Montpellier Tourist Office)
